Frequently Asked Questions
How do I purchase a Legend French Bulldog?
Our program works as follows:
To officially reserve a puppy and your place in line to pick your puppy, we require a fully refundable $500.00 deposit. As soon as a breeding is confirmed, we will contact those on the Reservation List and see if they would like to consider a puppy from the upcoming/current litter or pass to the next. Most of our puppies are spoken for prior to birth, so if you are serious about adding a Legend to your home, we strongly suggest getting on the Reservation List with a deposit. **PLEASE NOTE** I do require a telephone conversation prior to accepting a deposit. I want to make sure that we are a good fit for you and vice versa. Deposits are refundable at any time, for any reason. Just ask! We do not ever want anyone to feel obligated to purchase a puppy from us!
We are a small, artisanal, boutique breeder and therefore do not always have puppies available. We expect 1-2 litters per year, so your wait could be anywhere from weeks to months to a year or more. It all depends on where you are on the waitlist, how many puppies we have in a particular year and if you choose to select one of the available puppies or pass to a future litter.
We promise, though....the wait is worth it! A diamond isn't made overnight...and neither are LEGENDS.

Puppy Price
- LEGEND puppy-$4500.00 AKC Limited registration. Full registration is available to approved homes for an additional investment.
- Puppies will be continuously evaluated from birth and those with deposits may begin to indicate preferred prospects as early as 2-3 weeks; however, no puppies may be chosen until after we have decided which puppy(ies) we will be keeping. By 7-8 weeks of age, we will do a formal evaluation of the puppies and IF we are holding a puppy back, we will choose by that time. ALL puppies are subject to Legend retaining the puppy for our breeding program-- we know you are patiently waiting for a puppy and we almost always know ahead of time if we plan to hold a pup back from a particular litter and we will disclose that information as soon as we know. We do NOT retain puppies from every litter, but reserve the right to retain any puppy(ies) from any of our litters.
Frenchie FAQS
Frenchies and water *do not mix*--- they are like anchors and will sink and drown before you realize they are gone. If you have a pool, pond, or any other body of water, it is imperative to fence it off/restrict access and always supervise your frenchie when around it.
Frenchies and heat/humidity *do not mix*--- heat and/or humidity are quick killers of the French Bulldog. Please take a drinking straw and put it in your mouth. Pinch your nostrils closed. Now breathe through the straw. Run around a little bit. See how hard that is to breathe? That is how your frenchie feels when it is hot/humid outside. They will die quickly from even slight heat/humidity. It goes to say, never, ever, ever leave your frenchie in a car nor outside unsupervised when the temperature is even slightly warm.
Frenchies are a brachycephalic breed. By definition, they have squished faces. These adorable squished faces often will result in stenotic nares (pinched nostrils) and/or elongated soft palates. Your vet can determine if surgery will be necessary to improve breathing function and comfort. If you plan to have your pet spayed/neutered, I recommend asking your vet to do the nares/palate surgery at the same time *if it is needed* (not all need it!) so that the puppy only has to go under anesthesia once.
Frenchies are a chondrodysplastic breed. This means they have dwarf-like characteristics. These characteristics make them look like-- a french bulldog! This gene mutation can also cause spine/vertebra issues. It is important to limit stair use, not allow jumping on or off furniture, etc. We use and recommend doggy stairs for furniture. It is also important to have no structured exercise until the growth plates have closed at around 18 months of age. Playing in the yard and short walks are fine, but no forced exercise as this can increase spine/vertebra/hip issues in growing puppies.
Frenchies, like all bulldog breeds, *can* have issues with allergies. These can range from mild irritation to the paws in the spring when the grass starts growing again to chronic ear and skin infections. It is important to feed a healthful diet and practice good hygiene with your french bulldog. I recommend doing a weekly ‘once over’ which includes a nail trim, wiping of the wrinkles/skin folds/between paw pads with a chlorhexadine wipe, cleaning the ears with Epi Otic or Wondercide Ear cleaner, applying wrinkle balm and nose butter to the face and bathing monthly with a hypoallergenic pet shampoo.
Frenchies can be sensitive to anesthesia-- please make sure your vet is experienced with bulldog breeds and the correct protocols for anesthetizing them.
Frenchies do best if they are fed a wet diet-- raw, rehydrated freeze dried raw, or soaked kibble. They can choke on dry kibble so it's important to soak kibble well prior to feeding. I also recommend using a slow feeder as this can reduce choking hazard. There is a link for a slow feeder on my Puppy Shopping!! page.
Frenchies are sensitive to secondhand smoke. Please do not smoke inside your home.
Frenchies THRIVE on love and attention...please cuddle your frenchie as often as possible!
We practice and recommend the minimal vaccine protocol by Dr Jean Dodds, which I will print below- we DO have our vet give the first vaccination at 8 weeks of age because most puppy buyers feel uncomfortable taking home a puppy without the first vaccine. We do not recommend a second vaccine until 4 weeks after the first….so at 8, 12, 16 weeks for the Distemper/Parvo and 19-20 weeks for the last parvo only vaccine. Rabies is done after 6 months of age.
Frenchies are prone to several serious health issues so I recommend all puppy buyers purchase health insurance for their baby.
Dr. Jean Dodds – Dog Vaccine Protocol
The following vaccine protocol is offered for those dogs where minimal vaccinations are advisable or desirable. The schedule is one I recommend and should not be interpreted to mean that other protocols recommended by a veterinarian would be less satisfactory. It’s a matter of professional judgment and choice.
9 – 10 weeks of age
Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV
e.g. Merck Nobivac (Intervet Progard) Puppy DPV
14 – 15 weeks of age
Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV
18 weeks of age
Parvovirus only, MLV
Note: New research states that last puppy parvovirus vaccine should be at 18 weeks old.
20 weeks or older, if allowable by law
Rabies – give 3-4 weeks apart from other vaccines
Mercury-free (thimerosol-free, TF)
1 year old
Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV
This is an optional booster or titer. If the client intends not to booster after this optional booster or intends to retest titers in another three years, this optional booster at puberty is wise.
1 year old
Rabies – give 3-4 weeks apart from other vaccines
3-year product if allowable by law; mercury-free (TF)
